Making the BED-A-BRUSH™

Toothbrush holder parts

We use only Forest Stewardship Council (or other credible certifying organization) certified wood in our product. We buy as much wood locally as we can and are continually trying to find local sustainable sources for all our materials and supplies. Currently, we are using Western Red Cedar from oregon which we brought with us when we moved to Vermont. It has beautiful color variations and tolerates being in the humid bathroom environment.

You can see that we are a small family business that is part of the local economy.

Wooden bases

We cut the lengths for the bases, then make the rough depression at one end (which will catch any drips from the drying toothbrush) and the holes for the eventual posts which will hold the crossbars. We sand the bases.

Cutting the Bed-A-Brush™ crossbars

We cut and dado lengths of board which will eventually be cut again into batches of crenellated crossbars. The crossbars get hand sanded (a lot of work.)

Drilling holes for the dowls on our toothbrush holder

The crossbars get holes for the other ends of the posts.

We only use environmentally friendly finishes on our toothbrush holders

We glue the pieces together using non-toxic glues. And we finish the BED-A-BRUSH™ with a non-toxic mixture of linseed oil and beeswax.
